The predictions on the number of people who will have to move by the end of the century because of climate change range from 50 million to one billion. Displacement, migration and planned relocation will all play a part. In the fall of 2014 a Tuvalu family was granted New Zealand residency, in part due to climate change. It’s estimated that 10,800 residents of Tuvalu are at risk of losing their homes due to climate change. This was the first successful application for residency on humanitarian grounds in which climate was featured.
