Many people make personal lifestyle changes to help reduce carbon emissions such as biking to work, eating vegetarian or vegan, and recycling. In the future, will there be a cultural shift where people also fly less -- possibly much less -- in order to lower carbon emissions? In 2013, meteorologist Eric Holthaus pledged to stop flying altogether. Horrified by the most recent report from the International Panel on Climate Change, and looking for a serious action he could take to do his part to fight global warming, he swore off flying. In the future, new video telecommunications technology and a growing range of less carbon-intensive transportation options may make choices like Holthaus's less of a sacrifice.
